Universal Studios to Launch First European Theme Park in the UK by 2031

Universal Studios has announced plans to open its first-ever European theme park in Bedfordshire, UK. The park will be built on a former brickworks site near Kempston Hardwick and is expected to open by 2031. The multibillion-pound project will span 476 acres, with potential to expand to 700 acres, and is projected to generate 28,000 jobs during its development phase.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer welcomed the investment, highlighting the park’s potential to boost the UK’s economy and global profile. The theme park will include a hotel, retail space, and improved transport links, including upgrades to Wixams railway station and new road connections.

Universal expects the park to attract around 8.5 million visitors in its first year. The project has received strong support, with 92% of over 6,000 local respondents backing it. However, some residents have expressed concerns over infrastructure strain due to increased tourism.

Universal already operates parks in the US, Japan, Singapore, and China, and this new addition is set to become one of Europe’s largest entertainment destinations. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, pending government planning approvals. Local leaders and officials have praised the initiative as a transformative step for the region.
