Rory McIlroy Clinches Historic Career Grand Slam with Dramatic Masters Victory

Rory McIlroy finally completed his career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in a dramatic sudden-death play-off against Justin Rose. After 14 years of near-misses at Augusta National, the Northern Irishman sealed the victory with a three-foot birdie putt on the first play-off hole. His win places him among an elite group of just six golfers—including Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus—to win all four major championships.

The final day was a rollercoaster, as McIlroy started with a two-shot lead but made a double bogey on the first hole. He bounced back with a string of birdies, only to falter again mid-round with dropped shots on holes 13 and 14. Rose, who shot an impressive six-under 66, forced the play-off by birdieing the final hole.

Despite missing a par putt to win in regulation, McIlroy held his nerve in the play-off and broke down in tears after claiming the Green Jacket. His win ends a long wait since his last major title in 2014 and sets him up for a promising season with the US PGA Championship, US Open, and Open Championship ahead.

McIlroy called the win “14 years in the making” and said the emotional journey was finally worth it.
