Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring essential goods remain affordable for the public. He expressed satisfaction over the continuous decline in the Consumer Price Index inflation, highlighting that inflation dropped to 1.5% last month, the lowest since September 2015.
The Prime Minister noted that from July 2024 to February 2025, the average inflation rate was 5.9%, a significant drop compared to 28% during the same period last fiscal year. He credited the government’s economic team for improving economic indicators and ensuring that macroeconomic stability benefits the public.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz took notice of complaints regarding gas shortages in Karachi during Sehri and Iftar hours. Residents faced difficulties as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) failed to ensure an uninterrupted supply. Emergency meetings were held, leading to a 10% increase in gas pressure and the opening of gas distribution centers before Sehri and Iftar. Additionally, SSGC arranged an extra 20 million cubic feet of gas to improve supply.
Sindh Minister for Energy Syed Nasir Hussain Shah urged the government to prevent load-shedding during Ramazan, emphasizing that such disruptions should not occur.
