With Ramadan approaching, profiteers have already started increasing the prices of essential commodities.
Market sources report that the price of eggs has surged from Rs. 230 to Rs. 272 per dozen, while mutton now costs Rs. 2,500 per kg after a Rs. 200 hike. Similarly, beef prices have risen from Rs. 1,100 to Rs. 1,400 per kg.
Sugar, previously available at Rs. 124 per kg, has now soared to Rs. 155-160 per kg. The prices of fruits such as apples, bananas, melons, oranges, and strawberries have increased by Rs. 100-300.
Consumer rights organizations have criticized the administration for failing to enforce official price lists, allowing profiteers to charge arbitrary prices.
