Pakistan Navy’s Former Chief Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey Passes Away

Admiral (retd) Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey, the former Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) of Pakistan Navy, passed away in Islamabad on Thursday. He was 89 years old. Admiral Sirohey served as the CNS from 1986 to 1988 and later became the sixth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, a position he held from 1988 until his retirement in 1991. He was the second four-star admiral in the history of the Pakistan Navy to be appointed to this prestigious role.

Born in 1935, Admiral Sirohey joined the Navy as a midshipman in 1951 and trained at the Pakistan Military Academy. He later continued his education at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, England, specializing in signals/navigation and electrical engineering. He served in the Pakistan Navy’s Engineering Branch and participated in the 1965 and 1971 wars against India.

The current Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, expressed his condolences, honoring Admiral Sirohey’s contributions to Pakistan’s military and his dedicated service to the nation. His passing is a significant loss to the Pakistan Navy and the country.
