Oscar-Winning Palestinian Director of ‘No Other Land’ Attacked by Israeli Settlers in West Bank

Hamdan Ballal, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, was assaulted by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. Ballal’s co-director, Basel Adra, arrived at Ballal’s home in Susya after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, he found Ballal being detained by Israeli soldiers while settlers threw stones. The Israeli military later described the situation as a violent confrontation between Palestinians and Israelis, claiming rocks were thrown at Israeli vehicles.

Reports from American activists who were at the scene indicated that settlers attacked them with sticks, knives, and an assault rifle. Despite the presence of Israeli soldiers, no action was taken to stop the settlers. Ballal, who had previously faced threats from settlers, was injured and has since gone missing. No Other Land highlights the forced eviction of Palestinians from their homes in the West Bank, especially in Masafer Yatta, and sheds light on the ongoing violence and intimidation faced by Palestinian communities. The incident escalates tensions in the region as settler violence continues to rise.
