Golfer Gary Woodland’s Battle with Anxiety and Brain Surgery

American golfer Gary Woodland, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, faced a life-altering health crisis that severely impacted his career and personal life. Struggling with extreme anxiety and fear of death, he later discovered he had a benign lesion on his brain, which triggered seizures and disrupted his mental state.

Despite battling these challenges, Woodland continued playing golf but eventually opted for brain surgery in September 2023. Surgeons removed a large portion of the lesion, replacing the affected skull area with a titanium plate. Before the surgery, fearing the worst, he wrote heartfelt letters to his wife and children, hoping they’d never need to read them.

Post-surgery, Woodland found relief but continues to face daily struggles. He relies on yoga, breathing techniques, and mental strength to regain control over his life. Featured in Netflix’s ‘Full Swing’, he shared his journey to inspire others facing similar battles.

Now, returning to golf, he has a renewed passion for the sport and gratitude for the support he received. His story serves as a testament to resilience, mental health awareness, and the power of perseverance.
