Legendary Bollywood actor and director Manoj Kumar has passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai due to age-related health issues. He was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where his condition was reported by Dr. Santosh Shetty. Kumar’s son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that the actor had been struggling with health problems for a long time.
Kumar, born Harikrishan Goswami in 1937 in Punjab, is best known for his iconic patriotic films that resonated deeply with the Indian audience during the 1960s and 1970s. His notable works include “Shaheed,” “Roti Kapada Aur Makaan,” and “Kranti,” which earned him a special place in Indian cinema.
Over the years, Kumar received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, and the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. Tributes have poured in from the film industry and the public. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, calling Kumar an “icon of Indian cinema,” while filmmaker Ashoke Pandit described his death as a huge loss to the industry.
