The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all commercial banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will remain closed for public dealings on the first day of Ramadan 2025 to facilitate Zakat deduction.
Although banks will not be open for customers, bank employees will still report to work and carry out routine internal operations. A formal notification regarding this holiday is expected to be issued soon.
This annual closure aligns with the tradition of deducting Zakat at the beginning of Ramadan. The holy month is expected to start on March 2, 2025, based on moon sighting calculations. The new moon is likely to appear on February 28, but its visibility will determine the official start.
Additionally, Eid ul-Fitr is anticipated to fall on March 31, with the crescent moon sighting expected on March 30. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will make the final confirmation regarding the moon sighting.
