A 14-year-old fire cadet, Robert, has been honored with a National Fire Chief’s Council Courage in Adversity Award for his quick thinking and bravery during a hit-and-run incident. Last September, while traveling home from Basingstoke Fire Station, Robert witnessed a pregnant woman and her partner being struck by a drunk driver. Despite his young age, Robert immediately stepped in to help, providing first aid and contacting emergency services with precise details.
Thanks to his training in the Fire Cadet program, Robert knew how to check for danger, ensure the couple was safe, and communicate effectively with the authorities. His quick actions led to the driver’s arrest, as he was able to provide enough information to the police. The pregnant woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed her gratitude, praising Robert for his calm demeanor and ability to take charge during the emergency.
Robert’s father expressed immense pride in his son’s actions, stating that Robert not only helped when others might have hesitated but also remained composed under pressure. His selflessness and courage were key to managing the situation until professional help arrived.
