Adan Manzano, a sports reporter for Telemundo Kansas City, was found dead in his New Orleans hotel room on February 5, while covering Super Bowl LIX. Danette Colbert, a woman with a criminal history, has been charged with second-degree murder in his death. Colbert allegedly drugged Manzano with Xanax and alcohol before robbing him, causing his death due to the combined toxic effects.
Colbert, a known fraudster, had previously been accused of drugging and robbing victims, including David Butler, who warned that Colbert’s dangerous behavior would lead to a fatal incident. In Butler’s case, Colbert stole $134,000 from him after drugging him, and despite her previous criminal actions, she received probation, which many feel was a lenient sentence.
Colbert had also faced felony charges in Las Vegas for similar crimes but was not convicted due to victims’ reluctance to testify. Butler expressed regret over her lenient sentencing, believing that Manzano’s death, and possibly others, could have been prevented if justice had been served earlier.
