Trump’s National Security Group Chat Leak Stuns Washington

A leak of a private group chat involving top Trump administration officials has shocked Washington. The chat, which discussed sensitive military plans, was intended for senior national security officials and took place on the encrypted app Signal. However, political journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was inadvertently added to the group, gaining access to discussions about a U.S. military strike in Yemen.

Key figures in the chat included Vice President JD Vance, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz. The messages revealed policy debates and operational details, including internal disagreements about the strike’s necessity. Vice President Vance expressed concerns about the military action’s impact on European shipping and the risk of increased oil prices.

The leak raised concerns over national security, as such sensitive discussions were held outside secure government channels, potentially violating the Espionage Act. Critics, including both Democrats and Republicans, slammed the administration for mishandling classified information. While the White House acknowledged the mistake, there are growing calls for a full investigation. The incident has put pressure on Waltz, who added Goldberg to the chat, and sparked speculation of potential resignations.
