The iconic Kingda Ka roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey is set for demolition, marking the end of its nearly 20-year legacy. Standing at 456 feet, it was the world’s tallest and second-fastest coaster, reaching speeds of 128 mph.
Kingda Ka, which opened in 2005, faced frequent closures due to technical issues, including a lightning strike in 2009 and a snapped launch cable in 2023. Fans have been gathering near the park to witness its removal, as Six Flags prepares to introduce a record-breaking launch coaster in 2026.
In addition to Kingda Ka, The Twister and Parachutes rides have also been removed. Meanwhile, THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity, a new super boomerang coaster, will open this spring.
Six Flags promises an exciting future, but enthusiasts say replacing Kingda Ka’s thrill factor will be a challenge. With its removal, Cedar Point’s Top Thrill 2 will temporarily hold the title of the world’s tallest coaster, until the record-breaking Falcon’s Flight debuts at Six Flags Qiddiya City.
